Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is every-mum's dream that has to be come true. There are so many benefits by breastfeeding your baby. As a new mum, I want to do it too. I've read so many books about breastfeeding and the main things that I can remember about how to do it perfectly are that we should:

give the milk everytime your baby wants it. It means everytime, and everywhere. Breast milk won't run out easily. The fact is: the more you give it to your baby, the more you produce the milk.
maintain eye contact with the baby, specially if s/he has been able to see clearly. It is very important to enrich the relationship between.
keep the baby (and yourself) as comfort as possible, since usually breastfeeding is very. time-consuming.

For me, breastfeeding at home has no problem at all. But I always afraid if I should do it at public area. I wear hijab, so people may think I can hide my baby, Ilmi, with hijab when breastfeeding. But, it is a big NO. See that he is covered with my hijab, he may run out of oxygen. And that is very annoying.

There are types of nursing cover that is popular here in Indonesia. The first type is one that looks like an apron. It is okay and it is not cover the baby. But sometimes the baby feels the heat (specially this summer). The other is a nursing dress/clothes. Well, we may wear it sometimes, but we don't want to wear same clothes everytime. And buying so many of nursing clothes is too extravagant You will not wear them once you stop breastfeeding.

BabyBond Package Arrived a Week After I Gave Birth - Perfect Timing

There are three types: BabyBond Original which has a built-in burp cloth on it, BabyBond Flex that comes with a removable burp cloth, and BabyBond Couture which also can be used as belly band. They comes in various colours and sizes.

I choose BabyBond Flex in night colour to review. It is made from a good quality cotton. It is very soft that doesn't hurt Ilmi when he accidentally pressed his cheek on it. When I breastfeed at home, I still can use the burp cloth around Ilmi's neck so the milk won't stain his cloth and neck. The burp cloth is quite wide.

It takes a few times for me and Ilmi adapting with this new product. At first, I wrongly pull the layer. I pull the second layer to the top, so Ilmi hardly do the latch on. But now we can do it very well. We feel the difference. Don't worry, they have some how-to videos to help you wear the products.

I actually do not hold a wedding reception, just an akad (wedding agreement/contract), so I didn't need an invitation since the event was just attended by near families. Since the tsunami disaster in Indonesia in 2006, perhaps many of us feel anxious. Especially now that we begin to be haunted by volcanic eruption terrors. I rarely heard any natural disaster prevention training here in Indonesia. I think most of Indonesian people prefer to let the natural disaster passed, then rebuild the damaged things afterwards. It comes again and again. That is why the number of the victims of the disaster is always huge and increased, when we already know the saying goes : prevention is better than cure. I found that Survival of The Smartest : The First 72 Hours by Aaron Turpen (a.k.a MasterPrepper at Truth2America) will enrich our knowledge about essential preparedness, and how to make our house "safe" when the natural disaster comes.

"Think of it this way: a man who walks into the wilderness naked except for what God gave him and a man who enters that same wilderness with a backpack full of gear are not on equal survival footing. It's always better to be the guy with the gear." - Page 5.

The first time I receive the book, I jump to the volcanic eruption part, since this one is the most threaten natural disaster here (when I show it to my husband—he is more expert on this—he keep saying "This is great!"). Unfortunately, I didn't find any survival information for landslides (fyi, my house is very near to a mountain, and reading this book makes me aware now). But it is more likely same with the earthquake.

Things I learned (means, I never knew about before) :

Ever think of making a 72-hours survival kit bag? I don't. Here Aaron teach how important it is to survive right after the disaster happens, and what item is a must to be in your survival kit bag.
Making a safe emergency escape route is necessary! Find out why and how.
Set up your house utilities (the gas, fire, and electricity) shutted off in an emergency circumstances. Find out a safe way to do it within the book.
Keep yourself calm during the disaster. It can be done by drill yourself and other family member too. The more trained, the more calm you are. Calmness is very important to keep you think clearly and logically.
Witness death and blood first hand are also a form of preparing yourself (mentally, I guess). I remember that my mum always fainted when she saw blood. In such a mental state, I believe anyone won't do good during any hard situation.
(From the bonus chapter) When fire happens, we shouldn't open any ventilation to "get the smoke down"! Because it is only add more oxygen and gets the fire bigger.

As because this book is intended for beginners, it is no wonder if the language used can be immediately understood.
The most important thing is there is no need to doubt about the author's competence since he has a 30-years experience of family disaster preparedness.
The informations provided are not only practically presented, but also theoretical-explained. So, we can understand the real meaning of doing something.
Find out the 3 Rules for the 1st 3 Minutes of any emergency situation and how to deal with evacuation.
For you who are busy and have no much time reading, get the gist by reading the 3 pages summary starting from page 8 (It works for me at first, but reading the whole informations is the best).

Last saying : Be smart and prepared! Remember, we can't blame it all of the natural disaster's effect to the government (due to the bad infrastructures that can't handle the natural disaster well), because we can do the prevention starts from our own household. The most important thing is that we can protect our own family to the fullest (but still, don't forget to pass the knowledge to your neighbour nearby) .

What I can say about Lucia is: she is very mysterious. Purple is always mysterious for me, and it is really elegant in someway. I really enjoy making Lucia, the fabric is not too fussy, but still looks gorgeous. It took some hours to get her done (I forgot to count, but it is almost a day off).
By the way, I know what would the name be even before I made it (when the form is still a stack of fabric). "It will be Lucia," i said to myself, because I saw the purple shade and it raked me up a lot about my friend Lusy who loves purple so much.
This is very you, dear Lusy. ^^
The other inspiration is The Beatles' song "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", which I placed within the diamond shaped bead in the center.
